You Make It Happen!

A couple of weeks ago, many of you received a letter from me as part of our summer fundraising program. It is never easy to raise resources in the summer, but it is necessary. The letter was about Bernie Sanders' appalling attack on the faith of one of President Trump's nominees.

Responses were going well until the Fourth of July holiday. Maybe you have been out of town. Perhaps our letter is waiting for you at the bottom of a stack of mail. But we need your support. Please respond today.

If you were going to make a gift to American Values, you can use the envelope we provided in our letter or you can donate online at ouramericanvalues.org.

Your support is the only thing that keeps us going.

In fact, I have been in important meetings at the White House all day today. We have a seat at the table to defend our values only because of your support and generosity.

You make it happen!

Please stand with me now.

Comey's Crimes?

A bombshell report broke last night in The Hill newspaper. It was built on the bombshell dropped by fired FBI Director James Comey during his televised hearing when we first learned that the chief investigator of leaks was himself the leaker-in-chief.

According to the report, "More than half of the memos" Comey wrote about his conversations with President Trump contained classified information.

By his own testimony, Comey wrote some of these notes in his government car on government time. Comey also said that he wrote the memos in such a way as to avoid triggering classification and that he didn't think they were classified or that they were government documents. That is why he felt justified in leaking them, hoping to trigger the appointment of a special counsel.

But according to The Hill, the FBI determined that all the Comey memos "were, in fact, deemed to be government documents."

President Trump tweeted this morning, "James Comey leaked CLASSIFIED INFORMATION to the media. That is so illegal!"

It goes without saying that Comey would have fired any FBI agent for leaking conversations with him, much less the president of the United States.

There is tremendous irony here. Comey so badly wanted the appointment of the special counsel he may have triggered it by committing an illegal act, and the special counsel's star witness (Comey) may become the subject of a criminal investigation. Special Counsel Mueller, call your office!

More Fake Russia News

The New York Times is at it again. Today's front page headline reads: "Trump Team Met Russian Offering Dirt On Clinton."

Some talking heads have seized on this report to suggest that long-sought evidence of Trump's collusion with the Russians is finally coming. Some are even raising allegations of "treason." Salacious headlines aside, many leftists will be disappointed by the facts.

As you know, the 2016 campaign was a brutally fought contest. Both sides anticipated cheating and last-minute surprises. The Obama Administration said it had reason to believe that Russia was interfering in the election. The administration started intercepting conversations between the Russian ambassador and others within Trump's orbit. The reaction of the media was a collective yawn.

Trump's people heard that the Clinton campaign might have been colluding with Russia. Don't laugh -- that is more than possible. Russia had a very good eight years under Obama/Clinton. It would have been political malpractice for the Trump campaign not to follow up on this allegation.

So the president's son, Donald Trump, Jr., Jared Kushner and then-campaign manager Paul Manafort met with a Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya. Very quickly they realized she had an ulterior motive for the meeting, which had nothing to do with the campaign but a dispute over a human rights law and adoptions.

Buried toward the end of the Times report are these facts: "Neither Mr. Manafort nor Mr. Kushner was required to disclose the content of the meeting. . . Donald Trump Jr. was not required to disclose his foreign contacts. Federal and congressional investigators have not publicly asked for any records that would require his disclosure of Russian contacts."

So let's recap what we have learned: Donald Trump's son, his son-in-law and campaign manager met with a Russian lawyer who had a gripe about a human rights law that was interfering with U.S./Russian adoptions. No crime was committed.

Meanwhile, the Obama Administration appears to have abused our national intelligence agencies to find evidence of collusion and official Washington could care less. But when the Trump campaign looks for evidence of collusion between Russia and Hillary Clinton, we're talking about treason and impeachment.

By the way, there is another connection here that big media are ignoring: The connection that exists between the Russian lawyer and the left-wing firm that produced the fake Trump dossier.

Trump's Trip

It is unlikely that you heard anything positive over the weekend about President Trump's trip to Europe unless you are reading European news sites. They are reporting that European leaders conceded to Trump on issue after issue. Just consider this headline: "Trump Wins Key Climate, Trade Concessions At Stormy G20."

But what we are getting from the left-wing American media are non-stop absurdities like the lie pushed by several media outlets claiming that the first lady of Poland refused to shake President Trump's hand. She did shake the president's hand. Watch it here.

We heard about the non-controversy of Ivanka sitting in the president's seat, something the left would be cheering if Trump were a Democrat. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who hosted the G20 summit, defended Ivanka, saying:

"The delegations themselves decide, should the president not be present for a meeting, who will take the chair, and Ivanka Trump was part of the American delegation. It is very well known that she works at the White House and that she is engaged in certain initiatives."

There has been tremendous outrage over President Trump's suggestion that Russia and the U.S. attempt to cooperate on cybersecurity issues. You can disagree with the wisdom of such a policy, and I have my reservations, but that is exactly what the Obama Administration attempted to do.

What is it that the left, which has tried to appease Russia for the past forty years, wants Trump to do? Waterboard Putin until he confesses to meddling in the election?

The left says that Trump's rhetoric will get us into a war with North Korea. On the other hand, the left says Trump is too soft on Russia. Does the left want war with Russia?

The only thing that makes any sense about these contradictory attacks -- criticizing Trump for doing what Obama did -- is that the left will "resist" Trump no matter what he does.
